ART POD – Cultivating Creativity
Each session will begin with an introduction to the highlighted artist.
Step by step instruction will be provided as young artists learn new skills, yet are
provided the freedom to develop their own work.

Artists who participate in the Art Pod Summer Camp program will have the
opportunity to showcase their work in the August 2018 Goshen Art Walk.

WEEK 1:  JUNE 25 – JUNE 29
Eric Carle/mixed media
Grades K - 5
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create several art pieces inspired by Eric Carle.  This lesson plan is an opportunity to learn and reinforce skills such as tracing, cutting, pasting, composition, watercolor painting, texturing and more.

WEEK 2:  JULY 2 – JULY 6  (no camp on the 4th)
Georgia O’Keefe/oil pastels & chalk
Grades 6 - 12
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create a magnified floral pastel and chalk art piece inspired by Georgia O’Keefe.   Artists will learn pastel techniques such as blending, layering, hatching, side strokes, feathering, pointillism and drawing.

WEEK 3:  JULY 9 – JULY 13
Paul Cezanne/still life
Grades 6 - 12
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create a still life art piece inspired by Paul Cezanne.  Artists will sketch from arrangements created with real fruits and vegetables.

WEEK 4:  JULY 16 – JULY 20
Henri Matisse/collage
Grades K - 5
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create an underwater collage art piece inspired by Henri Matisse.  Artists will experiment with techniques such as resist, sponge painting, blending, tracing, stenciling, stamping, cutting, mono-printing, splatter and drip with the use of tools to scratch and reveal under layers to create the background upon which their sea life will be collaged.

WEEK 5:  JULY 23 – JULY 27
Frida Kahlo/portraiture
Grades 6 - 12
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create a portrait inspired by Frida Kahlo.  Artists will sketch and paint a portrait and will have the option to include their favorite animal in their portraits – a Kahlo trademark.

WEEK 6:  JULY 30 – AUGUST 3
Claude Monet/watercolors & impressionism
Grades K - 5
Campers will spend the week exploring  and experimenting with various mediums and impressionistic techniques to create art inspired by Claude Monet. 
 
WEEK 7: AUGUST 6 – AUGUST 10
Pablo Picasso/mixed media
Grades K- 5
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create a mixed media guitar piece inspired by Pablo Picasso.   Artists will experiment with warm and cool color palettes, tints and shadows, resist, sponge painting, blending, tracing, cutting, mono-printing, splatter and drip and the use of tools to scratch and reveal under layers.
