ART POD – Cultivating Creativity

Artists will have the opportunity to experiment with various mediums and techniques. 
This summer creatives will draw inspiration from nature, science, music, literature, famous artists and art from around the globe.  


WEEK 1: July 1- July 5 - No camp July 4

These Americas and Art
Ages 5-10

Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create several art pieces such as Lady Liberty and an American Flag collage.  This week is an opportunity to learn and reinforce various skills: tracing, cutting, pasting, composition, painting, texturing, and more.  The projects in this week feature a great variety of supplies and techniques ranging from markers, paint, pastels, to multi step mixed media collages.  Materials are included.  

WEEK 2:  July 8-July 12
Science and Nature
Ages 6-10
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create art inspired by science and nature.  Tall trees and animal habitats will be an inspiring source of subject matters for young artists.  The projects for this week feature a great variety of supplies and techniques ranging from markers, paint, pastels, to multi step mixed media collages.  Step by step instruction is provided as artists learn new skills, yet are provided the freedom to develop their own work.  Materials are included.

WEEK 3:  JULY 15 – JULY 19
Music and Art
Ages 6-10
Campers will spend the week exploring multiple forms of art: visual, music and literature.  We will use them as inspiration for art lessons that will excite children to create while making connections between art and music.  Important art concepts explored in the lessons include creating value, color theory, movement, and rhythm, symmetry and proportion.  Materials are included.  

WEEK 4:  JULY 22 – JULY 26
Literature and Art
Ages 5-10
Campers will spend the week creating art inspired by well known children's books such as "A Giraffe Can't Dance" and "The Cat in the Hat".  The projects this week feature a great variety of supplies and techniques ranging from markers, pastels, paint to multi media collages.  Step by step instruction is provided as artists learn new skills, yet are provided the freedom to develop their own work.  Materials are included. 

WEEK 5:  July 29 - August 2
Famous Artists and Art
Ages 11-14 
Campers will spend the week exploring various techniques to create artwork inspired by some of the greats such as Van Gogh, Monet, Kahlo, Cezanne, Picasso and O'Keeffe.  Campers will choose among a variety of famous works to draw inspiration from.  The projects this week feature a great variety of supplies and techniques ranging from markers, paint, pastels, to multi step media collages.  Important art concepts explored in the lessons include creating value, color theory, symmetry and proportion.   Step by step instruction is provided as artists learn new skills, yet are provided the freedom to develop their own work.  Materials are included. 

WEEK 6:  August 5 - August 9 
Trip Around the Globe & Art
Ages 11-14
Campers will spend the week exploring  various works by artists from around the globe.  Artists will have the option to choose from a variety of works to draw inspiration from.  Our creativity will take us places like India, Asia, Africa, Mexico, Egypt, and Russia.  Important concepts explored in the lessons include creating value, color theory, symmetry and proportion.  Materials are included.
